Operation Visualization of Temporary Construction Elevators
Tokyo, Japan - Aug. 05, 2024 -Penta-Ocean Construction (President, Takuzo Shimizu) and Sensyn Robotics Inc. (President, Takuya Kitamura) have jointly developed a “Monitoring System for Temporary Construction Elevators,” aiming to achieve real-time monitoring of lifting operations to enhance work productivity through comprehensive collection and analysis of operational data. The system was implemented in a construction project and its effectiveness has been thoroughly validated.
At high-rise construction sites, the time required to lift equipment, materials, and transport personnel has a significant impact on the overall construction schedule. However, the number of temporary construction elevators (hereinafter "elevators") and the lifting plans were generally determined solely based on experience accumulated on sites. Since site personnel also use the elevators, significant congestion occurs during peak hours - such as after morning meetings and around lunch breaks -resulting in unnecessary waiting times. Therefore, we developed this system to visualize the operating status of elevators and optimize their utilization. Additionally, the system centralizes the management and analysis of the collected data to improve the efficiency of lifting operations.
This system consists of a data collection device that transmits elevator control information and images to a server. Additionally, a smart device inputs details about the materials to be lifted, which are subsequently displayed on the dashboard of the web interface. Users can easily check video feed, the type and weight of materials being transported, as well as current location of elevators and their destination from displays on monitors or smart devices installed in the site office or the staff room (Figures 1 and 2). Collected data, including elevator operation status, can be visualized in graphs for more detailed analysis (Figure 3). This enables real-time monitoring of elevator operation status, allowing the analysis results to be used for improvements and adjustments to the current lifting plans. On-site personnel can scan a QR code with smart devices (Figure 4) to track the current elevator location, enabling them to make more efficient use of their waiting time.
Through the trial application of the system in the ongoing Tsukishima 3-chome North District Urban Redevelopment Project, we confirmed the following improvements:
1. Reduced waiting times for site personnel 2. Improved efficiency of material loading on lower floors through monitoring unloading conditions on higher floors and 3. Shortened waiting times for delivery vehicles.
Going forward, we aim to promote widespread adoption of the “Monitoring System for Temporary Construction Elevators” at large-scale super high-rise construction sites. Meanwhile, we will continuously collect and analyze elevator operation data on the upper floors to support the development of more efficient lifting plans for skyscraper building projects.
