Penta-Ocean Construction received an order for the expansion and retrofitting of Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) facilities in Singapore, and UG M&E received an order for electrical facilities work at the Singapore Institute of Technology's New Campus

Tokyo, Japan August 04, 2020 - Penta-Ocean Construction Co., Ltd. has recently received an order from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for the expansion and retrofitting works of the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) facilities for approximately JPY 20.9 billion. In addition, the Singapore M&E engineering contractor, UG M&E Pte. Ltd. (CEO, Tai Chee Yick), which became our wholly-owned subsidiary in June, received an order for electrical facilities work for the new campus of Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) (Plot 1 & 2), for approximately JPY 7.9 billion.

Under the new contract, the expansion and retrofitting works of Singapore ICA consists of (1) construction an annex building for ICA’s new Integrated Services Centre with 10 floors above ground and 2 basement levels in the existing parking area, and (2) a major retrofitting work of the existing immigration control building. The first phase will be construction of a new building adjacent to the existing immigration control building. Subsequently, the functions of Immigration Services Centre will be transferred to the new annex building upon completion, and the existing building will be renovated while using the remaining functions. The new Integrated Services Centre incorporates latest systems for one stop service to provide users with more convenient and secure services.

Meanwhile, UG M&E received an order from Singapore Institute of Technology as the nominated subcontractor for electrical systems for construction of its new campus at Ponggol North. This project is the construction of a 2-plot campus with a total site area of 91,000 m2 that can accommodate about 12,000 students.

Since establishment of our branch in Singapore in 1964, we have participated in numerous large-scale civil engineering and building construction projects. In the field of building construction, we have been focusing on new construction works for large-scale hospitals and other facilities. The new contract we have received is of great significance not only for the construction of a core facility of the Singapore government, but also for strengthening the retrofitting / A&A (additions and alterations) field which is expected to grow in the future. We believe that in order to achieve sustainable growth in our building construction sector in Singapore, it is necessary to diversify our business scale, building usage, construction fields, as well as to strengthen our business foundation, including our technological capabilities and human resources. As a part of this effort, we acquired UG M&E, one of Singapore's leading M&E engineering contractors, which has made a good start by receiving an order for a large-scale project. Going forward, we will leverage the strengths of both companies to generate synergistic effects.
Our company will continue to actively develop its business in Singapore, which is the most important base for overseas business, by making use of our rich track record and human resources.
